Keeping Up With the Auditorium

Although we can’t be together at our landmark theatre at this time, it’s never been more important for the arts to keep us connected, entertained, and uplifted. On this page, you can learn more about how we’re keeping our audiences connected with the arts, even while apart. We’re especially excited to announce two new video series that will bring content from the Auditorium Theatre directly into your home!

AUDBLOG

We’re posting new content to our AudBlog weekly! We’ll still be producing our At Home With the Auditorium and #AudTalk series intermittently throughout the summer, but we’ll use the blog as a space to share stories, videos, and photos of the theatre and its community while we’re closed. Check back weekly for a look through our archives, spotlights on some of our partners, and more.

#THISDAYATTHEAUD

We’ve been brightening up social media feeds with a little theatre history through our #ThisDayattheAud campaign. Several times a week, we share a notable performance or event at our theatre from that day in history and invite audiences to chime in with their own memories. Check it out on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages!

AT HOME WITH THE AUDITORIUM THEATRE

On Sundays at 6PM CDT (returning in the fall of 2020!) we’ll be streaming a live performance from one of the talented singers, dancers, and musicians from our community right into your home. All you have to do is tune in to our Facebook Live and enjoy #AtHomeWiththeAud. Put on your comfy clothes, gather your friends and family (near and far!), and enjoy some of the Auditorium’s artists without leaving your couch. Past performances have featured actor and singer Sophie GrimmToo Hot to Handel soloists Alfreda Burke and Rodrick Dixon, Samantha Micklewright and Jonathan Pacheco of Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theater, The Voice finalist Katie Kadan, singer-songwriter Susan Werner, Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, dancers from Trinity Irish Dance Company, a sing-along with Harmony, Hope & Healing, and a performance by Joan Curto.

#AUDTALK

We’re bringing chats with arts professionals, experts, and star performers into your home. We’ll be posting interviews on a diverse array of subjects from our Facebook and Instagram pages. With a wide variety of topics and special guests, #AudTalk will allow you to dive deep into the Auditorium’s history, hear from members of our Visiting Resident Companies, and learn about our efforts to make art accessible to all. #AudTalk will return in the fall of 2020!

Listen to our most recent #AudTalk with Jorge Pérez, Executive Director and Associate Artistic Director of Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, here

Previous #AudTalks included conversations with Auditorium CEO Rich Regan, Hearts to Art Director Sarah Illiatovich-Goldman, art historian and historical preservationist Rolf Achilles, WXRT’s Lin Brehmer, Chicago Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Mark Kelly, ADMIT ONE Program Coordinator Denise Santomauro, Alvin Ailey Artistic Director Robert Battle, National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry, and Deb Clapp, Executive Director of the League of Chicago Theatres.

AUDITORIUM MEMORIES (#AudMemories)

As we think back to the days when we were all together, we’ve been asking our audience to share their favorite #AudMemories. Have a story you’d like to share? Post it on social media using the hashtag #AudMemories, or submit it here! Here are some highlights we’ve received:

Peter R.

Derek and the Dominos, 11-25-70. Eric Clapton’s new band, before the “Layla” album came out. Opening act was some new guy named Elton John. $ 6.50 at the door. Beautiful theater, great sound, what a show!

Michael C.

Every visit to the Aud is memorable!!! From the beautiful venue to the top-notch talent. Seeing Miles Davis in the late 80s (this century), Robert Plant twice, Chick Corea & Bela Fleck, & David Byrne — how do you pick a favorite? All of them made the trip into Chicago well worth it. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!

#FLASHBACKFRIDAYS

We’re sharing clips from previous performances that have taken our stage on #FlashbackFridays. We’ve shared clips from Daniil Simkin in Les Bourgeois, Rodrick Dixon in Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah, Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater in “Bolero”, Ballet Nacional de Cuba in Don Quixote, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Solomon Dumas performing “Takademe”, 2015’s NFL draft opening, Trinity Irish Dance Company‘s “Communion”, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in “Ode“, and Joan Curto in Carpool Karaoke.
