Hearts to Art Summer Camp Positions

The Auditorium Theatre is hiring Teaching Artists for the 16th Summer of Hearts To Art (formerly Hands Together, Hearts To Art)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This unique camp brings together young people between the ages of 7 and 14 who have experienced the death of a parent to celebrate the healing power of creative play. Through the exploration and creation of theatre, music, and dance, Hearts to Art encourages communication and collaboration, fosters emotional growth, and provides friendship, compassion and community. Through interaction with young people who have experienced a similar loss, campers understand they are not alone.

AVAILABLE STAFF POSITIONS

Healing Counselor
Healing Counselors are licensed practitioners (LCSW, LCPC, LSW, LPC) who work directly with the campers to lead small healing groups 6 times over the 4 weeks of camp (3 times per camp session) to help campers navigate their feelings about their loss and have a safe place to express themselves. Healing Counselors are a part time position, expected to work approximately 35 hours between June-July. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience working with children, bereavement, grief, and working with high trauma populations. They will have experience leading group sessions, working in play therapy, and creating/customizing their work to a wide range of ages, needs, and personalities. They will have a passion for and belief in the arts, if not experience in the arts. Pay rate is commensurate with licensing.

Healing counselors must be available for ALL Mandatory Trainings, First Days of each Session, and Healing Session Days as Follows:

  • May 30 and June 27 (mandatory training 10-5)
  • July 6 and July 20 (first day of sessions, morning availability, time TBD)
  • July 7, 9, 15, 21, 23, 29 (healing sessions, afternoon availability, time TBD)
  • July 17 and 31 (final shows – not mandatory but appreciated)

Teaching Artists
Teaching Artists in Music and Dance are practicing artists in their respective disciplines who are committed to working with and educating young people. Teaching Artists teach their primary discipline to camp participants; create and implement curriculum; collaborate with Hearts to Art Staff and other professional artists; and assist in the development of cumulative projects that support Hearts to Art mission in accordance with the camp theme. Working with the Hearts To Art Team as a whole, all teaching artists are responsible for fostering a supportive and creative environment throughout the camp day. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of related professional experience, including performance and teaching, be able to create curriculum accessible to a variety of age ranges and artistic ability, and have familiarity working with young people and communities that have experienced loss or trauma.

Group Leaders
Group Leaders are the mentors and first point of contact for campers. Group Leaders execute logistical responsibilities such as the movement of campers from one activity to the next; coordination and facilitation of camper sign in and out, they are mentors, team leaders and the building blocks of our community working not only with our campers but also our Junior Counselors (former campers who have aged out and are returning in a working capacity). Group Leader’s must be creative, responsive, energetic and flexible. The ideal candidate will be individuals with the ability to serve as positive role models, will have previous experience working with young people in a camp or educational setting, arts experience a plus though not necessary, and will have educational or professional experience with and/or clear passion for art as a tool to address loss and trauma.

Camp Registrar
The Camp Registrar is essential to the organization of campers and families.  The position includes frequent contact with families, working with our camp database and camper files, and transportation set-up. The camp registrar will do some work pre-camp in the office along with the Camp Coordinator to help prepare for the camp season again and keeps working after the final week of camp to wrap up the program. During camp, the Registrar facilitates the check-in and check-out of campers and is also the liaison between caregivers and staff on a daily basis. Exceptional organizational skills and an attention to detail are necessary.  The ideal candidate has experience working with young people as well as working in an office environment. They are an independent worker, with an ability to learn on the job and display flexibility.  They preferably also have experience working with or training and understanding of populations dealing with loss and trauma as well as knowledge or passion for the arts.

CONSIDERATIONS 

All Staff must be available for the entire duration of both camp sessions in addition to paid staff trainings:

  • June/July TBD staff training and lesson prep at the Auditorium Theatre
  • July 6- 17, 2020 from 8:30AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday, Camp Session 1 (ages 7-10)
  • July 20- July 31, 2019 from 8:30AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday, Camp Session 2 (ages 11-14)
  • Certain positions may have earlier start time and later end times
