Closing our Katten/Landau Studio Series, jazz vocalist Tammy McCann will perform a selection of songs that evoke the sentiment of the World War II era, including “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” “Long Ago and Far Away,” among others.
McCann started her career making the rounds as a jazz artist in Chicago in the late 80s. She was a student of George and Von Freeman and has worked with such names as Milt Trenier, Ramsey Lewis, Henry Johnson and the late, great Ray Charles. In the last six years, McCann’s solo career has soared to new heights, including headlining a 4-day jazz club tour in NYC this past July, performing at Birdland, The Blue Note, Small's, The Metropolitan Room and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola. McCann also headlined in Chicago March 1-4 at the legendary Jazz Showcase. Her show, Tammy McCann & the Four Tenors, featured a different tenor saxophonist each night and was done in tribute to Von Freeman.
“[McCann has] a voice that soars in all registers, at all tempos, on all occasions...a voice that inspires wonder!” – Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune Arts Critic
