OUTREACH ACTIVITIESWhenever possible, ATRU strives to bring the artists that appear on our stage to Chicago Public School students. These informative and exciting programs are often scheduled with limited lead time. Therefore, if you would like your school to be considered for any future programs, please send the school's contact information to education@auditoriumtheatre.org.Upcoming Opportunities: Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel MessiahToo Hot Poetry ContestEach January, the Auditorium Theatre presents Too Hot To Handel as a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, we are inviting Chicago Public School students grade 3-12 to write an original poem celebrating Dr. King's vision of the beloved community. Poems must be received by Friday December 2, 2011. High School Master Class
Chicago Public High School choirs of 30-40 students will be considered. The Master Class will be held in early January. Students will then have the special opportunity to work with the starts of Too Hot and refine vocal ability and skill. Students will be invited to attend the Student Matinee performance on Friday January 13, 2012 at 11 am. There is no cost for this program. Too Hot Residency ProgramThis program is available free of charge to CPS students and teachers and will explore works of art inspired by Dr. King's vision and legacy. It will also examine music from Too Hot to Handel while encouraging students to reflect on the power of dreams. Just in time to celebrate Dr. King's birthday on January 15th!
