Beyond Brokeback includes a 2:00 pm screening of the Ang Lee/Focus Features Academy Award-winning film based on the powerful short story by Annie Proulx; followed by a 4:30 pm panel discussion with industry experts and a 5:30 pm staged reading of messages, essays, poetry and music inspired by the landmark movie, directed by David Zak, conceived and adapted for the stage by Gregory Hinton based on the book Beyond Brokeback, written by members of the Ultimate Brokeback Forum website, with original music by Shawn Kirchner.
One of Hollywood’s highest-grossing romance films of all time, Brokeback Mountain tells the story of a complex romantic and sexual relationship between two men in the American West between 1963 and 1983.
Panel discussion participants include Jean de St. Aubin, Executive Director of the Gene Siskel Film Center; Dr. Chris Chulos, Chair of the History Department at Roosevelt University; Larry Howe, Professor of English at Roosevelt University; and Bruce Jenkins, Professor of Film, Video, and New Media at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Beyond Brokeback cast features Darryl Stephens, Ryan Harrison, Liz Pazik, Mary Gearen, Bob Kessler and CCPA alum Amanda Batterson.
Attendees are invited to come and go as they like during the event.
Movie is rated “R” by MPAA. Under 17 requires accompanying adult over the age of 18.
