I cannot begin to describe just how excited I am that Giordano Dance Chicago is performing our first-ever, full length evening engagement at the Auditorium Theatre on Saturday, January 31.
Of course, we have performed on this landmark stage as headliners for the Music + Movement Festival in May 2013 and many, many times as a core partner of Dance For Life. To have the chance to perform a full program, complete with a world premiere of “Shirt Off My Back” from Broadway performer Ray Mercer and a reworking of “Moving Sidewalks” from Chicago choreographer Autumn Eckman, however, is a thrilling addition to Giordano Dance Chicago’s list of many, many “firsts”.
On a very personal note, I know that my father, Gus Giordano, is watching down on us as we perform in a venue he loved so dearly. Such fond memories of my dad, Mr. Arpino, and me sitting in their special box seats at the Auditorium, watching the Joffrey Ballet perform. I like to think of those two elegant, loving gentlemen, sitting together in that same box seat, beaming with pride as Giordano Dance Chicago finds its place on this beautiful stage this weekend.
What an honor, what a moment of pride.
