Too Hot to Handel Poetry Contest | FREE!

Submission Deadline: December 15, 2017

Too Hot to Handel celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s beloved community by highlighting the power of diverse community. Musicians from across Chicago come together on stage to form our Too Hot orchestra and choir, blending their unique sounds to create a powerful performance. Each year, the Auditorium Theatre invites students from across Chicago to reflect on the unique sounds of their own communities, writing poetry in response to the prompt “These are the sounds of my community…”

Winners’ poems will be published in the Too Hot to Handel performance programs, with each winner receiving 4 tickets to a performance of Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz Gospel Messiah and the chance to perform their poetry from our historic landmark stage.
